When most Americans think of the Brown Derby they think of the original restaurant, shaped like a hat, that was opened in 1926 on Wilshire Blvd. But when most Americans hear of the Brown Derby where stars and movie mogels meet to make deals or to mingle with gossip columnists, they are hearing of the "Hollywood Brown Derby" at 1628 North Vine, opened on Valentines Day of 1929.This menu is from 1940, taken from a scrapbook that my mother assembled of all the souvenirs she collected on a "trip-of-a-lifetime" that she took to Los Angeles when she was a young woman. Third, that NO COBB SALAD IS LISTED. (Cobb Salad is purported, and generally accepted, to have been introduced at this very restaurant and was named after its owner Robert Cobb.) Additional offerings were unexpected as specialties such as Spaghetti Derby, Corned Beef Hash, Mexican Tamale and Irish Bacon and Eggs. The Hollywood read more
