This is #1212 Activity Train from the Holgate Brothers Company of Kane, Pennsylvania. It's a 4 car, all wood pull toy with a locomotive and 3 freight cars carrying blocks. This toy was made by Holgate from the early 1940's through the early 1950's. The locomotive has an attached peg engineer. The cars are attached by means of string loops that hook over pegs. Only two loops are still included, and the car that carries the square blocks is missing the peg from one end. One car has 3 upright pegs, each peg holds two square blocks with center holes, one yellow block is missing. One car carries 5 round blocks with center holes, the blue one is missing. The 3rd car carries 4 upright cylinder blocks, one of those is missing. All of the blocks show heavy wear to the paint. The locomotive has heavy wear on all the edges and to the peg figure. All of the wheels have wear but they roll smoothly. There's a pull string with red wood bead attached, we are not sure that it's the original string.
