you have a WWII 1942 GI Canteen Belt Carrier in brown OD canvas in excellent condition. It is right out of my personal collection. The carrier is dated 1942 and is marked Shane Mgf. Company. Shane is a rare manufacturer of GI canvas field gear. The carrier has brass hangers. The button snaps work (but please be careful when snapping the cover shut as the item is sixty-five years old). US is stamped to the front. The maker's information is on the back under the belt hangers and is clearly legible. The carrier represents the second wartime model 1910 belt carrier made up through 1942 during WWII according to the reference book GI, Government Issue, A Collector's Guide to the European Theatre.) T is no tears, or dry rot to the canvas, fraying, etc. T is soiling to the base and the body of the cover from wear in the field. The stitching is solid and the trim is similar to the brown canvas body. The insulation is nicely preserved. The canteen belt carrier has retained its integrity. Further, 1942 is the first full year of the war (when the issue was in doubt). Gear issued in 1942 was used up on two fronts over the ensuing 3 to 4 years of combat. I have included a photograph from page 78 of GI, Government Issue, A Collector's Guide to the European Theatre. As noted this comes out of my own collection. I will be scaling down my personal read more
