Italian-born Ezio Pinza was born in Rome in 1892. He was one of the outstanding operatic bassos of the first half of the 20th century. He spent many seasons as a part of the New York Metropolitan Opera , and the San Francisco Symphony . After retiring from the Met in 1948, Pinza embarked on a second career on Broadway, in films and television. This auction includes the 8x10 hand-signed photo of Pinza, and a 16-page 9x6 program from a 1946 performance in Portland, Oregon of La Bohéme , featuring Pinza. The photo may actually date earlier than 1946. The photo is printed in sepia tone on 8x10 glossy photographic stock. It is hand-signed in black ink: Ezio Pinza Pinza died in 1957. This photo and program come from the estate of a well-known man who lived in Portland, Oregon, Bob Hazen . His mother worked as a talent booking agent in Portland, and the estate includes many autographed photos from this era.
