PLEASE ALLOW TIME FOR LARGE PHOTOS TO LOAD Outstanding Vintage Gents 1946 LONGINES Watch in Superb Condition Here we have a fine example of a gents vintage 1940's style watch from the world renowned Longines Watch Company. The watch is in excellent condition and is still fully working and keeping time having just been fully serviced by a qualified watchmaker. The watch comes complete with a black genuine leather band and looks great on the wrist. This watch is signed by Longines on the case, dial, and movement. This model is best noted for its unusual ringed or top hat style case ends and its wonderful and unique dial. The original, Longines signed case has a large classic squared tanq style which has smooth rounded sides. The ends are raised and have a banded or top hat style which also extend from the sides slightly. Take a look at the photos to see exactly what I mean. The lugs are beautifully curved and have the same rounded finish as the sides of the bezel. The case, including the back is a thick and rich 10kt gold fill and in very good condition with just light rub/wisps and points to the back corners - excellent for its age. The back is fully signed by Longines on the inside along with other case details. The case measures approximately 37.5mm x 27.5mm inc lugs. The Longines signed dial is again in super condition with just a light vintage hue. It is white and has a black outer minute track which also has small black numbers in an exploding design every 5 minutes. It has a set of very unusual, shining gold leaf numbers and round markers at the hour positions. Instead of a number at the 6 is has a deep set square sub second dial with its own black markings. The dial is signed 'LONGINES' just below the 12. The domed crystal is a high quality lucite and again in top condition. The watch is running on the original Longines 17j 8LN movement which is manual wind, very clean, fully working and keeping good time. We are able to accurately date the watch from the serial number shown on the movement. The black leather band is a 20R size. Many thanks for looking and good luck. LONGINES - WITTNAUER WATCH COMPANY Longines Watch Company was started in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz who opened a workshop in St Imier, Switzerland . He operated a "Home Business" where workers would work on watches from there own homes, which Agassiz would later sell. Sometime between 1854 and 1866 Agassiz handed over the operation of his watchmaking business to his nephew Ernest Francillon. Francillon soon built a factory in Les Longines near St. Imier and consolidated all of the areas watchmaking under one roof. The Longines name was born. The company began producing chronographs in 1879. They later produced aviator watches and cockpit instruments. The company registered its world known "Winged Hourglass" trademark in May of 1890. In 1912 Longines produced the first automatic timekeeping device. From that day on Longines has long been associated with time-keeping at major sporting events including the Olympics. In the 1950's Longines purchased the Wittnauer watch company and marketed a number of very similar lines of watches in the US under both brand names and Longines Wittnauer has now become one of the finest watches a collector can find because of the elegant and timeless designs, The accuracy and reliability, and the readily available parts.
