For bid is an historical original photograph of future Triple Crown winning race horse Citation, winning the 1947 Futurity Stakes race at Belmont Park. Aboard Citation was jockey Al Snider. Snider drowned while fishing off the Florida Keys, before the Kentucky Derby prep races, in 1948. Calumet Farm hired jockey Eddie Arcaro, one of Snider's good friends, and Arcaro proceeded to win his SECOND Triple Crown! ( Whirlaway, 1941) This is a Type 1 photograph, issued by the New York Racing Association, and Aqueduct Race Track. The NYRA photographer was Miker Sirico. Two yr-old Citation dominated this race November 4, 1947, on the way to a coveted Triple Crown run as a three yr-old, in 1948. Photographs of Citation, previous to the 1948 Kentucky Derby, are very rare! Citation was named the third best thoroughbred of all time, behind Man 'O War and Secretariat. The 8" by 10" photograph is in solid condition, no creases nor tears, minor handling. Winner to pay $2 safe and secure shipping.
