Artist: Jayne Dwyer (American, 1928 - 2006)Title: Untitled [The Red Barn: A New England Landscape] Medium: Watercolor on heavy textured paper Signature: Unsigned Date: Dated in pencil on the reverse October 17, 1950 Dimensions (inches): 22 x 30 Summary of visual elements: A colorful, expertly rendered scene featurng a barn, complete with a cupola, horseshoe nailed over the door, mailbox, and horse stalls visible in the interior, a sleigh at far right, and mountains in the far distance Condition: Artist's pinholes at edges; a few light water spots and small drips (evidently made by the artist at time of creation); light soiling at far left and right edges; otherwise fine, with vibrant colors Provenance: The artist's estate About the artist: A native of Nashua, New Hampshire, Jayne Dwyer earned degrees from the Massachusetts College of Art (1954) and the Maryland Institute of the College of Art (1970). An educator as well as a painter, Dwyer taught art both at the elementary school level and at the University of New Hampshire; in the early 1960s, she created the public television series Art at Your Fingertips, which was broadcast nationally. As a longtime member of the New Hampshire Art Association, Dwyer won nine consecutive awards in the 1970s.
