MATSON LINES S S LURLINE 1950 MENU, E Savage Illustration Large menu from the Matson Lines' S S Lurline, dated May 4, 1950. Dinner menu. 10 1/2 x 13 1/2 inches. Illustrated front and back by Eugene. Savage. The title of the illustration is Pomp and Circumstance - a reproduction of an Hawaiian painting. Excellent condition.Eugene Francis Savage (March 29, 1883 – October 19, 1978) was an American painter and sculptor known for his murals under the WPA, and murals at Yale University, his alma mater. He wascommissioned by Matsonto paint nine 4 by 8 foot Hawaiian-themed murals in Hawaii. They were completed in 1940, but never installed in the company's ships, which by then had been converted to troopships. In 1948, lithographs based on these murals were used as menu covers on the Lurline.Very good condition, suitable for framing.**See my other listings for more similar menus.
