Up for auction this week AT NO RESERVE is a gorgeous 1951 Gibson LG-1 guitar in very good condition. Of the all the Gibsons I've bought and sold over the years, this is the one of sweetest. Gibson small body acoustics made in the 40's and early 50's have a reputation for being extra special - and this one lives up to its reputation. This 60 year old beauty features a bound, ladder-braced top with stunning sunburst finish, bound mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck with Brazilian rosewood fretboard, rosewood bridge and tortoise-shell pickguard. The chunky "C" shaped neck fits very comfortably in your hand, the action is buzz-free and there is minimal fret wear. The LG size is slightly smaller than a dreadnought, making it a bit more comfortable to hold when you're on the couch - this, good volume and an incredible woody tone make this guitar a true pleasure to play. No cracks on the back or sides, just some light finish checking and a few scuffs and scratches here and there. The top has a very thin, well repaired crack seen in one of the photos. There’s also a hairline crack on the bridge that my guitar tech says is stable, does not affect anything and does not need repair. The original tuners were replaced with open face Grovers which work perfectly. The string height is 5/32" and 4/32" from the top of the 12th fret to the bottom read more
