Up for auction is a scarce biography of one of the most storied figures of the American West, Billy Dixon, and his wife, Olive Dixon, entitled ADOBE WALLS BRIDE: THE STORY OF BILLY AND OLIVE DIXON . Published by the Naylor Company in San Antonio, Texas, in 1956. Second printing. Billy Dixon was one of the first settlers in the Texas Panhandle, a buffalo hunter and scout, and a notoriously accurate rifle shot. He is one of very few civilians to hold the National Medal of Honor, for his actions defending a Army scouting party after they were surrounded by Kiowa and Comanche braves on horseback. For three days, his contingent held off a large band of Indians, all from a buffalo wallow. This scarce biography tells the story of Billy Dixons life and adventures, but also of his wife, Olives, who for a time was the only woman in the Panhandle town Billy founded. Book is bound in yellow cloth with black lettering. Book in VERY GOOD condition with decorated endpapers. 04.11.023
