1959-1960 Lionel 027 Gauge Complete Train Set in Box (#1609) + Extras This set is from 1959 or 1960. It’s model #1609 by Lionel Corp New York, NY. The set comes with the original box (a little beat up but fully intact), original instructions (a few tears and discolored, but fully readable) and the original Lionel accessories catalog with layouts. You will also be receiving an extra engine & coal car. I don’t remember which engine was the original to this set, but the #237 engine runs perfectly fine (runs both forward and reverse) with working headlight. The other engine has some transmission trouble. It runs but at times when you stop the train the engine will run in reverse and the headlight does not work. There are also 4 extra pieces of straight track. When track is assembled it measures a 70” long x 37” wide layout. Everything is in very good condition aside from the aforementioned engine. Except for the extra engine and track pieces, these are the original pieces 1 - 2-4-2 #246 Lionel Lines steam engine & coal tender car. This is the engine that has transmission issues. 1 - 2-4-2 #237 Lionel Lines steam engine & coal tender car. This is the engine that runs as it should.
