Other than the fact that LUCILLE BALL was making her Broadway debut at age 49, what is remarkable about the musical WILDCAT is the wonderful score by Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh. Using her own Desilu cash, Lucy commissioned the show, engaged Michael Kidd to direct, choreograph, and produce, along with N. Richard Nash as co-producer and librettist. She got nice reviews, the advance sale was great, and despite Lucy's awful singing, audiences went away happy. But the strain of all of that singing and dancing, eight times a week, took it out of Lucy; she pleaded illness, and boarded a jet back to Los Angeles, Lucie and Desi Jr in tow. With Keith Andes, Hal Linden, Edith King, Paula Stewart, Swen Swenson, Clifford David, Don Tomkins, and Howard Fischer. The show played the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon) for 171 performances before Lucy's exhaustion. Valerie Harper was in the chorus, and you can catch a glimpse of her in the group shots. This souvenir program is in very good condition, with slight exterior shmutz on the front cover, but it appears that the book was once attached to an album page, for there are four rectangles of what appears to be residue of cellophane tape on the back cover (see last image).PayPal payment is due within 24 hours of purchase.
