Reserve lowered since previous listing. Regrettably for sale my MK1 Austin Healey Sprite. This is FAR FROM a standard frogeye, it’s NOT a show car and was built to be used. The paint job isn’t too bad but the bonnet has several star cracks, and if I was keeping the car would be my next job to do (I have enough of the original paint to give it a couple of coats). The black “scoop” in the bonnet was a quick attempt to provide the twin forties with a bit more room !! The exhaust is stainless with a stainless back box (the back box is “unpacked” so its pretty loud) I’ve owned the car for 4 years,the previous owner built the car with the new shell and put it back on the road in 2001. During my ownership I’ve used it on numerous long distance events covering distances of 800+ miles over a weekend on several occasions. The car is a “new” 1 off all metal (apart from the bonnet) shell built by the well known Brian Wheeler. The doors are original 1960s (some blistering on one of the doors but it’s been like that for the past 4 years without getting any worse). The windscreen and windscreen supports are original 1960s. The shell differs from a standard mk1 with the cabin being cut further back (to allow rollbar fitting) and a boot lid is also fitted. The car is MOT’d until Sept 20 th 2011 The car is free TAX and is correctly registered as a 1960 AUSTIN HEALEY SPRITE. The V5C also shows the car as having a 1600 engine. The normal speedo does not work (think it may need a new speedo head ) but an SPA electronic speedo is fitted (fed from sensor on propshaft). Original green logbook available. Registration is transferrable and is 4 digit, 2 alfa (XXXX WW) The fuel gauge only ever reads half full even although the tank is full. The engine has NOT been modified to run on unleaded fuel and I run with a fuel additive. I removed the heater matrix to allow more room in the engine bay. Fitted with a later Sprite dashboard. Seats are rebuilt MK1 Sprite (bases are built with stainless steel sheet on the bottom and have been re-foamed) and have been recovered. The car colour is similar to Old English White but is a few shades darker (I have the paint codes). The car has a soft top which is in great condition and a stainless steel soft top frame which splits in two for easy storage in the boot when not in use. Side windows are removable and are in great condition. BODY: Brian Wheeler hand built steel shell. Fitted with boot, cabin space lengthened to allow rollbar to be fitted. Lightweight fibreglass bonnet. Original doors and windscreen. Front and rear bumpers removed. Stainless grill mesh with stainless grill surround. ENGINE: 1600cc Ford Crossflow (the one used in the MK1 XR2) bored out to 1700 cc, lightened and balanced. Dizzy is the electronic one from the Escort Valencia, think it was Mk4. Twin 40 webers with K&N filters. Facet electronic fuel pump. Catch tank. Custom made stainless exhaust. Stainless fuel tank. Manual electric radiator fan. TRANSMISSION: Ford Sierra Type 9 5 speed gearbox. Gearbox rubber mounting from a ford Corsair. Clutch is a standard 7.5 inch ford sierra clutch with a sierra clutch cable, the clutch pedal is from a sierra, modified to fit in to the sprite pedal box. Modified propshaft. Standard Mk1 Sprite rear axle. SUSPENSION: Front: Modified similar to "Frontline". Ford Escort estate dampers. Uprated and lowered MK1 Sprite springs. Stainless uprated anti-roll bar and drop links.
