Very interesting real photo post card of Mt. Dhaulagiri in the Himalayas, Nepal with (2) Nepalese stamps on the reverse tied native cancellation, actually carried on the 1960 Swiss Dhaulagiri Expedition, signed by the individual expedition members with a fingerprint of one of the Sherpa guides, addressed to Switzerland. Dhaulagiri is the seventh highest mountain peak in the world, and stands in the Kaligandaki valley in central west Nepal. It forms the eastern anchor of the Dhaulagiri Himal, a subrange of the Himalaya chain. After four previous expeditions, all unsuccessful, a Swiss team made the first ascent to the summit of the 8,167m (26,794 ft.) peak, which they reached on May 13 1960. The Swiss/Austrian climbers had followed a circuitous route around the mountain from Marpha, Tukuche, over Dhampus pass and French Col, to approach the summit from the north east ridge. The expedition members were Kurt Diemberger, Peter Diener, Ernst Forrer, Albin Shelbert, and Sherpa guides, Nyima Dorji and Nawant Dorji. Max Eisen was the expedition leader. A Swiss Pilatus PC-6 aircraft supplied the logistic support for the expedition. Named YETI, the plane landed on the northeast Col at 5977 m. Near the end of the expedition, the plane crashed and was abandoned near the Dhampus pass and the pilots, including Emil Wick, had to walk down to Tukurche. read more
