1960 SILKEN FLAME & 1962 RED FLARE REPRO Barbie O/F's Description 1960 SILKEN FLAME & 1962 RED FLARE REPRO Barbie Costumes Up for ebaY bids today are TWO genuine Mattel reproduction Barbie costumes! RED FLARE (original 1960's stock # 939) & SILKEN FLAME (original 1960's stock #977) LIKE VALENTINE'S DAY AND CHOCOLATE, THEY WERE MEANT TO BE TOGETHER! Though separated by two production years, the two costumes were basically made from the same red velveteen and white satin fabrics. Barbie's repro Silken Flame party dress features a full white satin skirt with a gathered waist and a strapless red velveteen bodice that has a "sweetheart" neckline! The back of the dress closes with an intact metal snap. A wide golden foil belt with a real metal, rectangular buckle, and belt loop, completes this out-on-the-town Barbie costume. This costume is an instance of when, in my humble opinion, the repro is better than the original, because if you've ever seen a not-so-mint example of this particular Barbie dress, you might have mistaken it for a bar rag instead of a Barbie costume. Quite frankly, if the original has been washed, it usually looks ruined, and the white satin skirt often looks limp, wrinkled and lifeless, whereas the repro Barbie costume that is for sale here today has a definite new quality to it and the skirt is actually read more
