Up for auction is a tin friction 1960's Star Drag Racer made by Meiko of Japan. The racer measures 9 inches or 23 centimeters long. It is complete and original and in very good, played with condition. The body of the racer has glossy red paint complete with an area of classic 50's/60's pinstriping between the driver and the engine. The red paint is nice and vivid with a nice surface gloss; there are some chips and scratches in the paint and a few touch ups as well. The engine still has the often missing little plastic boxes which cover part of the engine; when the friction motor is engaged, the two engine parts pop up and down. The plastic boxes are in great condition. The friction motor works and the tires and hubcaps are in excellent condition. There is a little touch up paint on the right back hubcap; the others are in nice shape. The majority of the wear to the car is on the base, mostly in the form of crazing and also a good bit paint touch up on the base. This is a terrific version of the classic tin racer and it has a great deal of detail. The drag racer is pictured on page 161 of the great Big Book of Tin Toy Cars Commercial and Racing Vehicles.
