You are bidding on a superb and vintage pre-smoked briar pipe. it is a variation on the theme "Billiard" with an oval shank, and saddle flat mouthpiece. This pipe was made by Chapuis-Comoy & Cie pipes manufacturer, St. Claude, France, in the years 1960's. It shows a "CHAPUIS-COMOY" stamp, and "Deauville" pipe-line or grade stamp. The finishing of this pipe is a warm walnut color smooth texture that enhances a beautiful cross-grained. The mouthpiece shows signs of teeth on both sides but they have not procured holes. That said, this pipe is in very good condition, with the exception of minor damage to the mouthpiece (see pictures) by A brief history of Chacom Pipes (or Chapuis-Comoy) The brand was created in 1928 and it is the result of the fusion of the first three letters of the names Chapuis and Comoy. This mark has a long history that unties him, with various interlacements, between France and England. The departure is found in a family Comoy that manufactures pipes of boxwood in Napoleonic epoch and it is it before, toward 1856-1860, to adopt the briar for the manufacture of the modern pipe. In 1922 after the First World War the association COMOY and CHAPUIS is realised and the Saint-Claude factory becomes CHAPUIS COMOY & Cie. In 1932 the world economic crisis reaches Saint-Claude. To weather this problem Chapuis Comoy & Cie joins with another company under the name of LA BRUYERE . In 1957 in face of the commercial preponderance of the brand CHACOM the company La Bruyère returns to the name of CHAPUIS COMOY & Cie. In 1971 having recovered its independence from COMOYS of London, Yves GRENARD , second cousin of Pierre COMOY, takes over the Direction of Chapuis Comoy & Cie and at the same time the exclusive sale of H. COMOY & Ltd, in France. In 1978 Pierre MOREL, independent free-hand pipe maker, creates for Chacom a line completely hand made the Chacom Grand Cru . He is the creator of the free-hand shapes Naja and "Fleur de Bruyère" . In 1987 Pierre MOREL joins the team Chapuis-Comoy as full-time. In 1988 creation of the S.A. Cuty-Fort bringing together Chapuis-Comoy, Emile Vuillard, Jeantet-David and Jean Lacroix. They have the production in common, but the different brands are preserved for the pipe's distribution.
