1961-63 LIONEL O-SCALE #231 ROCK ISLAND ALCOA DIESEL A-UNITThis LIONEL O-SCALE #231 ROCK ISLAND ALCOA DIESEL A-UNIT was manufactured by the Lionel Corporation during the period 1961-1963. Features include: molded black plastic shell, white painted roof-line stripe, white heat-stamped lettering & numerals "BUILT BY" over "LIONEL", "ROCK ISLAND" and "231" just above frame on both sides, painted red stripe on both sides & front separated only by the simulated doors, white heat-stamped Rock Island herald on front center below headlight, operating headlight, two-position E-Unit, ornamental horn, number boards, detailed simulated fan with blades visible underneath screen, black oxide treated sheet metal frame, two-axle Magnetraction and self-centering fixed knuckle couplers on both ends which will mate with any Lionel O-Scale operating knuckle couplers on a straight section of track. In addition, the rear four wheel powered-truck assembly has molded on the center plastic portion "LIONEL" over "DIESEL SWITCHER" over "THE LIONEL CORPORATION, N.Y." over "MADE IN THE U. S. OF AMERICA", the four wheel front truck assembly has two spring-loaded electrical pick ups and the truck side frames appear to be molded Delrin plastic.
