Tall-format fold-out 1961 guide to traveling in Florida with an upside-down road map of the state for driving south on U.S. Route 27. It opens to 24 inches tall by 9 inches wide and was published by the Highway 27 Association of Florida, Floridan Hotel, Tallahassee. The "upside-down" map is on one side and tells us the Route 27 is known as Citrus Boulevard from Lake Placid to Ocala and as the Orange Blossom Trail from Ocala to Miami. The right-side-up map, the one we're more used to seeing, is on the other side. Both sides include the names of cities, towns, and roadside attractions along the route.Among the attractions are Silver Springs, Monkey Jungle, Cypress Gardens, Governors Grove, Citrus Tower, Carriage Cavalcade, Cypress Kneeland, Jungle Drive, and Miami Seaquarium. Some of these attractions have since vanished from the landscape. Governors Grove, for example, had been maintained by the Minute Maid Corporation and had 400 square feet of land designated for each Governor of the United States. The fruit from each tree in the plot was picked and sent to the governor each year. Some of the towns shown on the map have also disappeared. Among these "ghost towns" are Bare Beach, Bean City, and Andytown.Condition: The map is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with no rips, tears, or writing.
