1966 FULL SIZE ZIPPO SHIP LIGHTER. USS MEREDITH DD-890. DESTROYER. BRUSHED FINISH, LIGHT SCRATCHES, SOME HINGE WOBBLE, SPRING WORKS WELL, ROLLER SPINS. USS Meredith (DD-890) , a Gearing -class destroyer , was the fourth ship of the United States Navy to be named for Jonathan Meredith USMC , a sergeant who saved the life of Lieutenant John Trippe of Vixen , during the Barbary Wars . She was laid down at the Consolidated Steel Corporation at Orange, Texas , on 27 January 1945; launched on 28 June 1945, sponsored by Miss Juliette S. Kopper, great-great-great-grandniece of Sergeant Meredith; and commissioned on 31 December 1945 with Commander W. B. Vindeman in command.
