When I bought her in May 2008, this was the ebay description: Land rover series 2a 109 LWB Manufactured 1967 Exempt from road tax Road registered in 1976 on release from MOD Mileage 64752 It has a 2286cc petrol engine 24volt electrical system - "Fitted for Radio" Complete nut and bolt rebuild in 1994 and hardly turned a wheel since PARTS Brandnew (taller, heavy duty/1 tonne type) military chassis (from Blanchards) Brand new & completenew rear tub/body (Blanchards) Brand new tailgate Brand new front wing outers (military) Brand new doors and glazed door tops Gearbox completely rebuilt New reconditioned (crated, direct from ministry) engine with ignition etc Brand new (FFR type) canvas tilt/hood 5 brand new Goodyear tyres Obviously all mechanical and electrical components checked and renewed accordingly Full respray (inside and out) in deep bronze green Wheels are the very rare and sought afterdeep dish military gun carrier split rim type It has been in almost constant dry storage since it was rebuilt and is in as near perfect condition as it was after the rebuild. The original owner had it rebuilt during an illness from which he did not recover enough to use her so it had only been driven round the block a few times to keep things turned over Body: All exterior panels are NEW so very very straight with no alloy oxidation Chassis in absolutely as NEW condition, wax oiled at rebuild and had never seen rain until 6 weeks ago! The bulkhead is original in excellent condition has repair to the dashboard shelf and 2 small repairs to the nearside footwell but again is completely rot free. As it is the original the paint finish is not quite up to the standard of the exterior but is still very neat and tidy All the original instruments and dash panel in place - start button, choke lever, speedo, fuel guage, gharge light, oil temperature, and tiw ammeters. Original ignition switch with military 6 way lighting switch Everything in working order OTHER ORIGINAL FEATURES Nato tow hitch (proper swivelling and locking type) Screw on military glass lamp lens Original spec Militay headlamps Twin 45 litre (90 in total) under seat fuel tanks Military reinforced heavy duty front and rear axles, 24 spline diffs & halfshafts Leather swivel gaitors Seats both are original type (Elephant hide) in perfect condition Roof in as new condition Engine starts instantly! NO smoke and runs like a sewing machine, does not drip oil! Cylinder head has been fitted with hardened valve seats so no additives needed TO DRIVE it is an ABSOLUTE JOY! As good as you can get for a series landrover, gearbox is lovely (smooth, quiet, all gears are where they're supposed to be A1) Engine is quiet and pulls well. There are no unexpected noises from anywhere. (The loudest things around town are the tyres!)It actually has an improved (near normal) turning circle due to the extra wide wheel rims/track THE HISTORY Bought in 1976, was in regular use until the 1990s when a disability to the owner stopped him driving it. In 1994 it was sent to Crook Bros for a complete rebuild. The owner's health did not recover so the onlt time it was driven was by a friend of his round the block to keep parts moving. In March 2008, he gave it to someone who had no interest in it and I purchased it (RESCUED IT) from him. I put in two new batteries and fitted a new brake master cylinder(to be on the safe side) checked everything put in some fresh fuel and I've probably done about 200 miles.
