AUCTIONDESCRIPTION (MJM1) Winning bidder to receive a 1967 Minnesota Twins Team Autographed (autograph / auto / signed) Baseball. This Baseball contains 26 ‘recognizable’ Autographs from the 1967 Minnesota Twins Baseball Team. The 1967 Twins had a very exciting and successful Major League seasons finishing tied for second place with the Detroit Tigers and one game behind the first place Boston Red Sox. This Baseball includes Autographs of MLB’s National Hall of Fame (HOF) Harmon Killebrew and Rod Carew. The Minnesota Twins Team Hall of Fame (HOF) includes both Killebrew and Carew as well as Tony Oliva, Cal Griffith Jim Kaat, Bob Allison, Earl Battey and Zoilo Versalles. 1967 was the “Rookie” season for Rod Carew as well as the ‘final’ season for veterans Zoilo Versalles and Earl Battey in a Twins uniform. Several players from this 1967 Team are deceased (11) and are noted below in player auto listings. Also, this Baseball has a ‘RARE / TOUGH’ Autograph of Outfielder Jimmie Hall and Cesar Tovar as well. Hall was actually traded by the Twins in December of 1966 to the California Angels after playing for the Twins from 1963 thru 1966. It is only a guess on my part but the Autograph collector must have gotten the Hall auto when the Angels visited the Twins home stadium or at some private function in this timeframe. Finally, the Baseball has an Autograph of Twins Cal Griffith on the “Sweet Spot”. The now deceased Griffith was the President, Majority Owner and General Manager of the Washington Senators / Minnesota Twins from 1955 thru 1984. It is ‘VERY RARE’ to have a Griffith Autograph on the ‘Sweet Spot’ of an Autographed Twins Team Baseball. The Autographs per Baseball Panel follows: SWEET SPOT – Cal Griffith (President / deceased) PANEL 1 – Zoilo Versalles (dec.), Dave Boswell (dec.), Earl Battey (dec.), Rich Reese, Cesar Tovar (dec.), Jimmie Hall, Bob Allison (dec.) and Jim Ollom. PANEL 2 – Harmon Killebrew (dec.), Sandy Valdespino, Rich Rollins, Rod Carew and Russ Nixon. PANEL 3 – Jim Kaat, Frank Quilici, Ted Uhlaender (dec.), Jim Perry and Frank Kostro. PANEL 4 – Jim Roland (dec.), Mel Nelson, Jackie Hernandez, Billy Martin (Coach / dec.), Jim Merritt, Jim ‘Mudcat’ Grant and Ron Kline (dec.) I purchased the autographed baseball as well as many others in a large autographed personal collection several years ago. The original autograph collector obtained the autographs in person at Minnesota Twins games played at the old Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis during the 1967 Major League Baseball season. The autographs were signed with several ball point pens, as seen in the picture scans below, with some autographs slightly faded and others still very sharp. In general, the overall condition of the baseball is very good with only some very slight toning due probably to the handling in obtaining the autographs as well as the storage factor over the years. Another qualifier of this auction item is that the autographs are on an Official 1960’s MacGregor ‘Little League’ Baseball (Model B76C) and, therefore “NOT” an Official Major League Baseball. This Autographed Baseball does have a “horsehide cover”, a “cushioned cork center” and is “yarn wound”. See the picture scans below of the actual baseball described in the auction.
