First things first! Check out the web site provided below so you can HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THIS IS A REAL AUTHENTIC ORIGINAL 1971 FENDER NECK PLATE. /Neckplate%20ID/neckplate.htm You are looking at an original Fender F Series neck plate from 1971, serial number: 329691 . First of all, I am pretty blown away at how many fakes there are listed right now on e-bay. There are so many fake neck plates, it's unreal. The good news is, this one is NOT FAKE. How do I know this, you may ask, as they appear difficult to distinguish. It's actually not that hard to distinguish the fakes from the real ones; 1) Fender never chrome plated the back of the neck plate as good as they did the front. 2) Fender never had crooked numbers, they used a stamp that produced very symmetrical alignment on the serial numbers. 3) Slightly above the serial numbers, you will notice a sort of smeared looking striation above most of the numbers. 4) Chrome is very durable, because of this, you wont find a whole lot of wear on these neck plates unless people have physically gone to great lengths to abuse them. I have owned a great many of these fine Fender instruments and never have any of my neck plates displayed anything more than a few surface scratches(and people's names scribed into them).
