First things first! Check out the web site provided below so you can HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THIS IS A REAL AUTHENTIC ORIGINAL 1971 FENDER NECK PLATE. /Neckplate%20ID/neckplate.htm You are looking at an original Fender F Series neck plate from 1971, serial number: 329691 . First of all, I am pretty blown away at how many fakes there are listed right now on e-bay. There are so many fake neck plates, it's unreal. The good news is, this one is NOT FAKE. How do I know this, you may ask, as they appear difficult to distinguish. It's actually not that hard to distinguish the fakes from the real ones; 1) Fender never chrome plated the back of the neck plate as good as they did the front. 2) Fender never had crooked numbers, they used a stamp that produced very symmetrical alignment on the serial numbers. 3) Slightly above the serial numbers, you will notice a sort of smeared looking striation above most of the numbers. 4) Chrome is very durable, because of this, you wont find a whole lot of wear on these neck plates unless people have physically gone to great lengths to abuse them. I have owned a great many of these fine Fender instruments and never have any of my neck plates displayed anything more than a few surface scratches(and people's names scribed into them). There are entire websites dedicated to this and I happen to have read a couple of them. Aside from reading these websites, I've been emersed in all things Fender for the past ten years, with a particular emphasis on Jazz Basses. I have owned and do own many beautiful original Fender instruments so I don't have trouble distinguishing real from fake. You don't have to take my word for it, some simple web searching will quell any doubt as to this neck plate's authenticity. Please look carefully at the pictures as they are considered to be a part of the description. As far as the dating of this neck plate, I have provided information on that from an extremely reliable web site here below: F-Series (late 1965 to mid-1976) Big script "F" on neck plate below serial number. Known as the CBS era . 100000 to 110000 = late to 200000 = to 210000 = to 250000 = to 280000 = to 300000 = to 330000 = 1971 serial number of my neck plate is: 32969 1 330000 to 370000 = to 520000 = to 580000 = to 690000 = to 750000 = 1976 Thanks!
