1972 Mare and Foal by Henry Thelander 4th Issue of Bing & Grondahl Mother’s ( Mors ) Day Series Blue & White Danish Porcelain Collector Plate Copenhagen Mint Condition in Original Box Description Mare and Foal is the 4th plate in the annual Mother's Day Series by Bing & Grondahl begun in 1969 . This beautifully crafted Danish porcelain plate was designed by the artist, Henry Thelander . The Bing & Grondahl Copenhagen collector plate is dimensional and tactile with the image embossed in relief and hand painted in shades of cobalt blue under the glaze. Mor's Dag 1972 (Mother's Day ) is impressed in the mold at the base of this endearing scene. Each plate in this enduringly popular Mother's Day series features an engaging scene with a mother from the animal kingdom nursing or sheltering her young. The 1972 plate features a foal (baby horse) suckling her mother (the mare) in a grassy pasture. The nostalgic scene on each plate in the series expresses the bond between mother and child. This fine little piece of collectible art can be displayed in many ways and will give a moment's delight whenever you take a moment to reflect on its meaning. This Bing & Grondahl 1972 Mother's Day collector plate is made of fine porcelain china and measures 6" [15.2 cm] across. The plate is marked with the numbers 8000 and 9372 and the famous B&G trademark with the three towers derived from the coat of arms of Copenhagen. 8000 is the number of plates issued before destroying the molds, and 9372 is the date of the plate in the European manner (March 9, 1972). This plate is in excellent (new condition with original box and brochure). Back foot rim is pierced for ease of hanging on your wall.
