The Liberal voice of the paper rattled the establishment and scared parents and led to legal hassles over obscenity and politics that caught the attention of the news media resulting in national news stories and a country-wide reputation for The Bird. The office of the paper at Piedmont Park was firebombed and destroyed on May 6, 1972 after the paper published an expose of the mayor of Atlanta.
