This is one of many Longines watches I have offered for sale on ebay, it is an excellent example of their famous minimalist styling. Longines are a particular favourite of mine, and I have perhaps been ‘putting off’ letting them go as part of the liquidation of my extensive collection. What is there to know about Longines? Well, their history started in the watch making area of St. Imier (Switzerland) around 1832, they specialised in timekeepers for sporting events. By 1879 they were producing chronographs and ever since they have been at the forefront of new technology. Perhaps most famous of all in their illustrious history, were the pilots watches of the 1930's, synonymous with Charles Lindbergh’s Atlantic flight. This watch impressively with original box and papers dates from 1973; it is a wonderful example of Longines timeless dignity and class. Typical of Longines, it is unpretentious and purely functional and has been made to display the utmost precision. The heavy, solid gold case (9ct and 32mm excluding lugs and original, signed winding crown) is in near mint condition having been rarely if ever used. The silvered dial is mint and entirely original and features a clear 'Longines' signature in black print with the famous Longines logo below. The hands are also in gold to match the case, the hours all batons again in gold. read more
