1974-75 Kentucky Colonels ABA Champions-Basketball Program -Artis Gilmore Cover Description: American Basketball Association program for the Kentucky Colonels ABA team for 1974-75. Hall of Famer Artis Gilmore pictured on the cover. Thick program has 72 pages illustrated with Colonels player bios, rosters of all the ABA teams, records, statistics, articles, advertisements, etc. After several seasons of frustration and close playoff losses, the Colonels finally won their only ABA Championship in 1974-75, defeating the Indiana Pacers 4 games to 1 in the finals. The Colonels were one of two teams still in existence at the end of the American Basketball Association that did not survive the NBA-ABA merger. Despite having won more games than any other ABA team, with the highest winning percentage and perhaps the most loyal and rabid fan base, the Colonels were not one of the four teams accepted by the NBA. The NBA bought out owner John Y. Brown for $3 million. Brown used the money to buy the Buffalo Braves. The Colonels players were put in a dispersal draft and scattered to various NBA teams. Gilmore went to the Chicago Bulls. Program is undated and unscored. Intact and complete, clean, small area of wear on the left corners on the cover. See scans for examples.
