Pricing & History
1974 Gary Carter The Sporting News Rookie of the Year Award from The Gary Carter Collection. Growing up in California during the 1950's and 1960's, Gary Carter was the sort of All-American boy that you might expect to turn up in a Norman Rockwell painting. He loved sports, treated people well, and even had a neighborhood paper route where he would hit the porches consistently with his throws. As the years progressed, he became a greater and greater athlete, earning eleven letters in high school where he was the captain of the baseball, football and basketball teams. He received over 100 college scholarships; one even to be the quarterback at UCLA. Three years after he was drafted by the Expos, he was an All-Star and The Sporting News Rookie of the Year, as the gold Bulova Accuquartz watch on offer here confirms. The back inscription reads: "The Sporting News National League Rookie Player of the Year 1975, Gary Carter." Ten karat rolled gold plate back with gold electroplate bezel. Letter of provenance from Sandy Carter. Grade: 0, Service: Appraised, Service No.: 2214379
