This is an approx. "3/4 TROY OUNCE STERLING SILVER (FIRST EDITION PROOF ROUND). Minted by THE FRANKLIN MINT as a "SPECIAL COMMEMORATIVE ISSUE" in 1974. Marked on the edge is the word "STERLING". Only 3,164 silver rounds were minted. Its condition is excellant. (The light shining on the plastic cover makes it look like the round is tarnished, but it is not.) It comes in the original air tight plastic cover and has never been opened or exposed to the air or removed) The front reads; "NATO TWENTY FIVE YEARS OF SECURITY." The back reads; "NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANIZATION." The North Atlantic Treaty Organization , also called the ( North ) Atlantic Alliance , is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949. The organization constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party.
