Description: This is a vintage 1975 Sada Yairi (S.Yairi) YD-304 made by the legendary late Sada Yairi (1908-1992) who is world renowned as a master luthier. He was the uncle of Kazuo Yairi of Alvarez/Yairi fame, but if you're looking at this auction you probably already know a little bit about Sada Yairi and his reputation as a master luthier.If you look at this scan of an old Sada Yairi catalog from the '70s you'll see the YD-304 sold for ¥80,000! That was a lot of money in Japan and America back in 1975! Using an inflation calculator , ¥80,000 back in 1975 would be approximately $3400+ at today's price. The YD-304 was legendary among the Sada Yairi guitars. So much so that they've been reissued as the YD-304R and sell for over $2000 USD street price new and aren't even made by Sada anymore or have Brazilian back and sides.This guitar features a dreadnaught body. Solid spruce top with Brazilian rosewood back and sides. The center of the back is a beautiful flamed maple with a similar design as a Martin D-35. The neck is mahogany. The fingerboard, bridge and all pins are ebony. The binding all around is quality celluloid and not cheap plastic. The nut and saddle is the original bone. The tuners are the original Sperzel that came on the guitar.The nut width is 1 11/16". Width of the fingerboard at the 12th fret is 2 1/8". Bridge string spacing is 2 1/8". All the same specs as the Martin D-35. Condition: The guitar has bumps and bruises from 35 years of use but t are no cracks or structural damage. Part of the clear finish in the back is slightly cloudy. The neck is straight. T is no warpage in the neck or body. The frets are in great condition with little wear. The action at the 12th fret for the low E is 2.9mm and the high E is 2mm. It's not too high or low and is very comfortable for me to play. The guitar is currently setup with Martin SP light gauge strings.
