This doll has the look of a Japanese Gofun Ichimatsu Doll, but it is constructed differently. I am not an expert, as this doll came from my mother's collection. Her notes indicate that the doll was purchased in Kyoto in 1982. I have attempted to research this type of doll, and have found that this one is not made of the composition "toso", nor does it have the "gofun" layers of the genuine antique dolls. I will try to describe this doll as completely as possible. The doll is beautifully clothed in traditional Japanese garb, and has lovely expressive deep brown glass eyes. She has very natural looking black hair. The front half of her head appears to be a thicker, matte-finish type of composition, which is carved around the glass eyes, giving them a deep-set realistic look. The back half of her head, her arms and legs aremade of skin-tone plastic. The body is a paler, more translucent plastic, and appears to have a voice box in the stomach area. A hole between the legs allows fastening the elastic which apparently attaches the head and arms. The head is a little wobbly, so the elastic may need adjustment. The doll is accompanied by a red satiny pillow about 6-1/2" square. The doll is just over 11" long, and appears more comfortable in a seated position on her pillow, as the legs are not shaped for standing. Please feel free to ask read more
