This is a highly collectable limited edition sterling silver and silver gilt double mushroom made by renowned designer silversmith Christopher Nigel Lawrence to commemorate the Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981. Each mushroom has a removable cap which reveals a figure, one with the Prince of Wales feathers, the other with the centrepiece of the Spencer family crest. Below each is a coloured enamel roundel with ‘C’ on Royal purple and ‘D’ on red respectively. The piece is fully hallmarked to the rear stems with ‘CNL’, the lion passant, the leopards head for London and ‘G’ for the year 1981. One stem additionally has the number 90/500 which shows that this design was limited to 500 and this item was number 90 in the sequence. The interior of the mushroom caps also bear sterling silver hallmarks. A ring is attached to the Prince Charles stem inscribed with the motto of the Prince of Wales, ‘ICH DIEN’, which translates as ‘I Serve’. Both mushrooms are attached to a naturalistic heavy slate base which measures approximately 4.75 x 3.75 inches (12 x 9.5 cm), the taller mushroom measuring just under 7 inches (17.5 cm) including the base.
