Beautiful Isle of Man crown featuring a Manx Cat. This 1988 Isle of Man Cat 1 Crown, copper-nickel coin was issued as a part of the popular Cat Series from the Pobjoy Mint. The series start here with the Manx Cat issued on behalf of the Isle of Man. This tailless cat has become a national symbol of its homeland, the Isle of Man, and makes a natural choice for the first collector's coin in this extremely popular series. The origins of this native Manx cat are steeped in mystery - biblical references abound, as do tales of shipwrecked felines swimming ashore from Spanish Galleons. Shy but friendly, clever and endearing the Manx has a personality all its own as does its coin. The obverse of the coin features a fine effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.This beautiful 1 Royal Proof Crown (CuNi) is in excellent condition.
