Mogilny was the first Soviet player to defect to the West; the first Russian to be included on the NHL All-Star Team; the first European-born player to score 76 goals in an NHL season; and the first European to become captain of an NHL team. In 1989, Mogilny defected to the West after the Soviet Union won the gold medal at the World Championships in Sweden. He secretly flew to Buffalo, New York, where the Sabres, who had drafted him in 1988, held his NHL playing rights. Great use. Captain's "C" and "25 Silver Anniversary" patch above the Sabres insignia on the front. There are stick marks and good pilling inside and outside of the shirt. The number "89" and a Sabres patch on both sleeves. Verso has "Mogilny" and the number "89."
