1995 Civil War Battlefield US Mint 2 Coin Proof Silver Dollar Set w/COA & Boxes 1995 Civil War Battlefields Silver Dollar The 1995 Civil War Battlefields Silver Dollar was issued to commemorate 100 years of Civil War battlefields preservation. This is dated from the establishment of the Gettysburg National Military Park in 1895.The obverse of the silver dollar features a soldier offering a canteen to another wounded soldier. This was designed by Don Troiani, an artist known for his depictions of battle scenes. The reverse features the Gettysburg landscape and a quote from Joshua Chamberlain, who fought in the battle. This was designed by John Mercanti.The inscriptions on the obverse include "Liberty", "In God We Trust", and the date "1995". The majority of the reverse is taken up by this quote: "In great deeds something abides. On great fields something stays.
