This great proof silver piece is a limited edition of the Jackie Robinson 50th Anniversary "Breaking the Color Barrier" set, and is uncirculated with a beautiful case. Certificate of Authenticity "2519" "Fifty years ago, Jack Roosevelt (Jackie) Robinson donned the uniform of the Brooklyn Dodgers to become the first black Major League Baseball player in over 75 years. in his rookie year, he weathered threats from other teams, death threats from irate fans, and his own temmates' attempt to petition him off he team. But Robinson persisted, batting .297 in his rookie season and earning The Sporting News's first annual Rookie of The Year Award for his efforts. Through his performance, poise, and dignity, Jackie Robinson won the respect and admiration of his teammates, the other big leaguers, and ultimately the nation. he single-handedly brought to an end 75 years of black exclusion from Major League Baseball. his success on the diamond and his intelligent voice and activities off the field after his retirement in 1956 gave blacks and whites alike a role model to follow.
