This is a piggy bank that could also serve as a book-end. The item was designed by Fornasetti as part of this "Theme and Variation" series and made in Germany by Rosenthal in a 1998 limited edition. Piero Fornasetti was an Italian painter, sculptor and designer who spent most of his life in Milan. He designed more than 11,000 items during his lifetime. More than 350 of his designs were from the "Tema e Variazioni" (theme and variation) black and white series based on the enigmatic face of a woman, the opera soprano Lina Cavalieri, as a motif. It is a white ceramic or porcelain item with gold trim shaped and fashioned like a book. It measures roughly 9 inches high by 6 inches wide by 3 inches deep. It was never displayed and is in good condition. NO RESERVE!In response to bidders' queries, I am revising the listing to include international sales.
