1 oz. Silver 1999 Australian Kookaburra The 1999 design depicts a pair of kookaburras, one an adult and the other a young fledgling, sitting on a branch. This coin has no privy mark (US state quarters, etc.), so would be a great addition to your kookaburra set. It does contain the special P100 mint mark commemorating the centennial or 100th anniversary of the Perth Mint. Kookaburras are large terrestrial kingfishers native to Australia and New Guinea. They are best known for their unmistakable call, which sounds like loud echoing human laughter. The first silver one ounce Kookaburra was issued in 1990 by the Perth Mint, all silver one ounce Kookaburras have a $1 face value, these coins are considered legal tender. Mintage = 300,000. Compare mintage to 1 oz. Silver American Eagle (2010 > 30,000,000). Kooks are 100x rarer. Coins are in hand and ready to ship. They are in their Perth Mint plastic capsule.
