FROM THE LATE 1800's (19th c) A GORGEOUS SOLID BRASS ART NOUVEAU DOUBLE INKWELL by BRADLEY & HUBBARD. ORNATE NOUVEAU DESIGN on BOTH INKWELLS, CARRIED SEAMLESSLY THROUGH TO THE BEAUTIFULLY ELONGATED PEN TRAY. INKWELL HAS BRADLEY & HUBBARD'S MAKER'S MARK etched on the underside on both inkwell bottoms (I've photographed one of them.. B&H within a triangle) SEE PHOTO. The inkwell is beautiful to look at and in excellent solid structural condition. I wish to point out the ways this antique inkwell has aged. Please know that since you are unable to examine it yourself, I need to be specific to inform you of things you might not notice. They are incidental to the piece and in no way detract from the beauty or aesthetic statement the inkwell makes on its own. So are my comments: The double lidded-hinges are both in fine working condition. T are 2 small parallel nicks on the edge of the inkwell. (See photos) T are no major flaws in this piece. Its very beautiful and amazingly intact for its age and usage. The brass patina of the inkwell has been left unpolished. T are a few small tarnished spots. I asked an antique restoration friend about polishing it up. He assured me that it can be cleaned up beautifully but I wasn't sure the winner of this auction would have wanted it polished up so I left it untouched. Many 18th & 19th century read more
