Early 1800s Penny-Foot Iron Trivet from New England Description: Classic early 1800’s hand forged round iron hearth trivet from New England with three penny-footed legs. These trivets were meant to rest in the coals of a hearth fire where cast iron pots were placed on them, primarily for food warming. This one measures 6 ¼ inches in diameter at the ring, and stands 4 1/8th inches tall. Legs are scroll twisted and attached to the trivet ring with a forge weld. Little feet are perfect pennies. Trivet is good and sturdy. Legs are not warped and the piece stands even when placed on a flat surface. Nice blacksmith work in the shaping of the legs and ring; there is some surface rust on the legs (can be lemon oiled away), but not detracting. Nice early utilitarian iron piece from New England. Perfect for period kitchens and hearths. Offered with no reserve and a very low opening bid.
