19C ENGLISH ORIENTALIST PAINTING BETROTHED COUPLE NoRES This listing is for a framed 19th century English Orientalist oil painting of a couple walking together in an outside setting. The painting in it's frame measures 35 by 27 1/4 inches or 89 by 69 cm. The painting itself measures 28 by 20 inches or 71 by 50.5 cm. The painting shows a young man and woman walking with their arms around each other and looking into each other eyes. They stand against a desert background with a blue sky behind the. This piece is done in Orientalist style. The painting is titled "BETROTHED" which describes the couple perfectly. The painting is signed on the lower left "J.F. LEWIS". This is painting is either by the artist or is a period copy of one of his works. Also on the front of the frame is plaque that reads "BETROTHED J.F. LEWIS .RA". The frame is heavily carved wood with gesso and shell and leaf designs. It has a gilt gold patina or color. The painting is in very good condition. The frame is in good condition but the gesso has multple hairlines around it. These are all tight and not loose, but there.
