19C English SILVER SUGAR BASKET Satin Glass Liner 1880 ANTIQUE, 19C, SILVER SUGAR BASKET WITH THICK ENGLISH OPAQUE WHITE GLASS LINER. Glass liner is etched on ground polished bottom with English Registry mark, the date it gives is Nov. 22 1880. I had to add some paprika to the bottom for it to show up at all & at best it is hard to read in the pic but very clear in reality. The silver is unmarked so I have to assume it is silverplate, however it really looks like sterling to me, t is NO sign of plating wear, t just seems to be unmarked sterling. Needs some polishing. Handle is great and stays put when you raise it. Basket is constructed of silver wire mostly, 4 ball feet & beaded trim around the fine wire border. Measures 4-1/4" tall not includ. handle, top is approx. 3-3/4"+ square, base tapers inward. Simple & elegant looking. Would be pretty filled with Holiday goodies. Glass is not satin on the inside, it is glossy, it is 3/16" thick. T are chips on 3 of the outside corners at top & a tiny nick on the bottom, it is really not noticed when glass is inside the frame. A few scuffs on the satin side of glass, they may clean off, but again, you they are minimally seen inside the basket. No damage to the basket. Wonderful English sugar basket !
