19C SIGNED FRENCH BRONZE DANCING BACCHANTE PRETTY GIRL I have been lucky enough to buy a small collection of French bronzes. I will be listing them all on Ebay over the next few days. All without reserve. Please see my other listings for the rest of these bronzes as well as other interesting antiques. This is a French bronze sculpture of a classical bacchante. The bronze is signed at the base "MACHAULT", for the French sculptor Paul Emile Machault (1800-1866). Reference: "The Dictionary of Sculptors in Bronze" by Mackay, p. 244. This bronze sits on a black marble base and the whole measures 13 1/2 inches at 34 cm tall. The pretty young woman is dancing and playing castanets. She is shown in classical clinging robes, her right arm raised above her head with a castanet, her left arm behind her with the other castenet. Her face and her body express her joy and her absorption in her dancing and music. Please note her curling hair tied and braided around her head, the jewelry around her right wrist, neck, and around her hips, and her very classical profile. The color or patination is rich golden brown. It is original and it is consistent. The black marble base is fine. Please see photos. The whole is in excellent condition. You are bidding on an antique French bronze by the artist. This is not a recast or reproduction. Shipping
