19c STAFFORDSHIRE CHARLES MEIGH RELIEF MOULDED POTTERY BACCHUS CHERUB JUG c1835 Description This is an early 19c Victorian Staffordshire Charles Meigh large water jug with a fine raised relief moulded /majolica type pattern of a group of cherups and greek figures dancing around, I think Bacchus is about somwhere in this complex pattern with a rococo patterning all around with leaf and vine patterning to the handle. This tall, elegant pottery jug is around 8 and 3/4" high, 7" across handle to spout. There are no chips but has a strange repair above the base rim with a small hairline running up from it. The good repair is a sort of slip glaze affair and may have been done at the time after firing to arrest any further hairlines. Still, it is a fine example. The base is marked for the Charles Meigh and I believe dates circa 1835-40. A lovely piece of porcelain. UK post and packing will be 7.95p. This is a heay piece with a weight of around 1.2kg! I am selling a selection of Victorian moulded jugs and will combine p/p. Overseas may be cheaper sent individually.
