Offered here, a very nice example of a 19th c. ash splint gathering basket in good condition. The bottom of this basket measures 8" x 12" and the sides softly flare out to create a top opening of 11" x 16". The height is 6 1/2" to the rim and 9 1/2" to the top of the handle. Gathering herbs, roots and mushrooms was important to survival in rural 19th c. settings where the garden and the fields needed native supplements. Baskets of this type were essential and ubiquitous. I especially like the deliberate blue decor on this one. Thanks for looking into my auctions.
