For sale is a wonderful 19th century Adirondack interior woodland scene oil on canvas painting circa 1860 by the Adirondack and White Mountain School artist John Parker Adams. This painting has been professionally wax lined and conserved. It is framed in a contemporary wood and gold gilt picture frame. The original frame was beyond restoration.We do not know much about this painting's origins other then it came out of an upstate New York home. The painting is signed in the lower right-hand corner with a monogram of JAP. This is the matter in which John Parker Adams signed his oil paintings. We have taken two close-up detailed pictures of the signature for your consideration.The scene is a lovely interior scene of what we were told is the Adirondacks in upstate NY. In the center background of the picture you will see a fisherman fishing the local stream for the days catch. These scenes were very popular with some of the great Hudson River school and Adirondack artists in the 19th century.The artist has done a great job detailing the darker interior forest scene while yielding to the blue sky above.We feel this painting needs a period Hudson River School or American 19th century gold gilt picture frame to bring out its full beauty.We have not black lighted this painting.
