A hand-painted ceramic majolica covered sardine box. It has a squared box with high walls attached to an underplate, glazed in a glossy green, yellow and amber majolica glaze. It has low relief detailing to the plate rim, box and lid, with high relief and applied sardine fish figures as the lid finial. The work is unmarked.- light crazing on the inside base, there is also a dark mark in the inside corner that appears to me as glaze, but I cannot confirm for sure.8.5" W x 4.0" H x 7.75" D- measured dish with lid.
