Description Here is a nice rare 19th century sailors rigging gage ruler in good original condition. The brass and wood surface has a nice patina from age with dark areas. On both sides of the wood surface are engraved charts with numbers which would tell the sailor measurements for the gage when using different types of rigging etc on a ship. The charts have different types of rigging mentioned such as tard hemp rings, manilla coils, hemp, rope, chain and wire which can be seen in the photos. The brass gage rule slides open and closes nicely with engraved measurements on its surface. On the side is the makers name John Rabone & Sons Birmingham. In total measuring 4.6 inches long and 1.8 inches wide. Provenance, this sailors ruler rigging gage is originally from Portsmouth from a collection.
