This is a very early 19th, or possibly 18th century, treen herb drying rack. Wonderfully hand carved from a hard wood, possibly Maple, the rack is 17 inches long and 2 1/2 inches wide. It looks like from the wear and stain marks that it was used by laying it flat and hanging the herbs from the notches. I have not seen a similar example to it to. There is a hole in the end for hanging when not in use. It may also have been used to hang tobacco plants for drying. This would look great in a country home with herbs or dried flowers hanging from it.
