A lovely old 19th C Portrait of a Dog, oil on cardboard, very nicely painted but damaged around the face, with areas of paint loss. Despite the damage he's a wonderful painting, definitely draws the eye. Currently in stable condition. I suppose this is a King Charles Spaniel. He is looking straight at you, with his mouth open and showing a little tongue, in a very simple outdoor setting. He has very expressive eyes, and I love the loose, sure brushwork of the fur. I know very little about it, exactly when it was painted or where, but it's an old painting and it is both lovely and very pleasing. It was in a 19th c gilt frame which I was unable to get! The painting measures 12 1/4 x 12 1/4 inches. I love this guy. Penine Hart Antiques and Art has been in business since 1987, my feedback is 100% satisfied. .
